Don’t be Afraid of the Dark (horror) Movie Review – Year 2012

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark (horror)

Cast : Katie Holmes, Guy pearce, Bailee Madison

Direction : Troy Nixey

Duration : 1 hour 40 minutes

Language : English

Certification : U / A

Summary:  Sally Whispering friends don’t take too long to turn into her sworn enemies

The movie sure has all the ingredients of a regular horror movie such as a lonely little girl in the woods.  A little girl playing with stuffed toys with one of them even talking to her, a beautiful gothic house situated in the middle of nowhere. When the couple are just about ready to get cozy in the middle of the night, then begin strange whispers to meddle.

Sally a little girl with her parents just moved into a big haunted house, where strange things and strange happenings are norm of the day. What the movie misses is to show these strange happenings to the audience. Strange creatures whatever they are start whispering to the little girl.  First they pretend to be the little girl sally’s friends and later reveal they want her teeth in return.  You would now wonder why they want her teeth.  To get the answer to your question you should ask Mr. Blackwood the original owner of the house, who unfortunately for you is now dead.

Sorry, the new owners i.e. Sally’s dad and more are too busy redesigning the whole house to impress the boss and more than half the movie goes by, with little sally trying to convince  her folks of the presence of ghostly people.  The remaining part of the movie focuses on bonding between Kim (Katie Holmes) and sally (Baillie Madison)  One of the best moments of the film is when Kim tries to be the perfect mother to Sally, and with sally slowly and steadily confiding in Katie brings tears to the eyes.

Now that I come to the end of this article, I am sure you are still trying to find out where the horror is, even I was waiting for the horror to engulf me, but sadly it left me not only bereft but disappointed too.  One of the worst horror films of recent time, even RGV would have done  a shade better than Trox Nixey.  You will sure come away without being afraid of the dark….literally as the title of the film.

Don’t waste your money on this phoney horror show and wait to watch it when it hits the television screens in a few months from now.  A complete waste of time and money.

I very reluctantly rate if a decent 1.5 stars out of 5.  Definitely worth a miss.
