The iPad mini is a mini tablet computer created, flourished and sold by Apple Inc. The iPad mini is the fifth major product in the iPad line of the Apple Inc. was announced on October 23, 2012 and released on November 2, 2012 in most of all Apple’s markets. Its first feature is the reduced screen size of 7.9 inches, in opposition to the normal 9.7 inches size of a mini tablet computer. Most of the features of the iPad mini is likely the same as the internal specs of the iPad 2 including the display resolution.

We will now have a quick look at the iPad mini regarding built and design, camera and the battery life.

Built and Design

If you will clearly look at the new iPad mini, you will just see that the iPad mini is just a smaller version of the iPad 2 which have the screen size of 9.7 inches but still, there are some differences between the two.

The built, quality, and the aluminum construction of the iPad mini is now much stronger compared to the iPad 2 just because the trim is having almost the same symmetrical slope with a square-like edge that the iPhone 5 has. Even with the features of a much stronger case of the iPad mini, you still need to keep an extra case for it in case of scratches. Just remember to care for your iPad mini for having scratches.

With the measurements of 7.87 x 5.30 x 0.28 inches (200 x 134.7 x 72 mm), it is much thinner compared to the 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches (123.8 x 58.6 x 0.30 mm) of the iPhone 5 even though it weighs 308 grams. If you will go for the Wi-Fi cellular version of the iPad mini, you will find slightly heavier at 312 grams.

If you are tired of holding some other tablets with two hands, you will find yourself wondering that you are holding a tablet with just one hand though it is a litter wider compared to other 7 inch tablets out there just because of its slightly higher aspect ratio of 4:3. You will find yourself using a tablet that is slightly comfortable to use compared to others because the weight of the tablet is evenly distributed.

The 7.9 inches IPS LCD display is giving you a low resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels which is a little unfavorable for some of the users who wanted to watch a HD video with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a little disappointing compared to the Retina display of the iPhone and some other larger tablets.

Another thing bad about the screen resolution of the iPad mini is it is not as sharp as other tablets available in the market and its 162ppi pixel density is very, very far away from the standard 264ppi pixel density of some other iPads.

With the display, the iPad mini comes with a 1.2 MP iSight camera that is for video calls, Facetime and self-portraits.

Being an Apple device, the iPad mini comes with the normal recessed home button right under the display. Just like the normal home button of Apple devices, you will never have any accidental awkward presses because it requires a tough press before it is activated.

The camera of the iPad mini takes brilliant shots for a tablet. It comes with a 5 megapixel rear camera and the 1.2 megapixel front camera. The default camera of the iPad mini is still not good because some of its settings turning into a huge viewfinder. If you really wanted to take a good shot on your tablet, you may wanted to try some third party cameras and experiment from it so you can really get the things that you wanted to have.

Battery Life

The battery life of the iPad mini is a little better or above average compared to standard battery life of a tablet. With normal usage, the battery will last for about one day and a half which is a little good to know.

The only thing that will surely annoy you is if you bought the iPad mini to play a lot of games or watch some videos because it will really drain your battery fast.

The Verdict

If you are tired of using a really huge tablet, you may wanted to try the Apple iPad mini. As far as you see from our review, it is not for a huge gamer because you really needed to charge your iPad mini from time to time. For a new user of a tablet, this might be a good choice because of its simplicity.

  • Creatively beautiful brushed metal design
  • Simple User Interface
  • Takes good quality images and videos for a tablet

  • Low resolution
  • Doesn’t include boxed headphones and even dock adaptor
  • Battery life is pretty good but drains much faster if you will going to play some games or videos
  • If you already owned an iPad 2 on the past, you will see that the iPad mini is just the smaller version with a better camera.
