single_review

Nokia Lumia 920 is by far, the best smartphone produced by Nokia. The Nokia Lumia series was once the best partner of Microsoft. With a lot of consumers complaining about the technical specifications of the previous phones on the Nokia Lumia series, Microsoft taken out their title. When the HTC 8X was released, it is now the new Windows Phone 8 signature handset. Now, with the release of the Nokia Lumia 920, they sure won’t just stand back and give up their title.

Built, Design and Display

Like some of its predecessors, the Nokia Lumia 920 has a unibody polycarbonate shell with glossy matte and finish. The overall design of the phone is quietly impressive but it is large and heavy. The phone measures 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm, 99 cc (5.13 x 2.79 x 0.42 in) and weighs 185g (6.53oz). If you will compare it to other smartphones, you will feel like you are holding some other thing, and not a phone. About on the weight of the phone, you will notice that the weight of the phone is a little unbalanced, making the upper portion slightly heavier. This concludes that the weight of 185g might just be on the lower region and the upper portion of the phone might be around 186-188g. The Nokia Lumia 920 features an average screen size of 4.5 inches which allows its users to navigate around the phone at ease.

Another downside on the design of the phone is when your Nokia Lumia 920’s battery became too old or it got some terrible problems, you can’t replace it with a new one. You have the choice to replace your phone again or just go to a Nokia Service Center near you and you can ask them what to do with your phone.

All the control buttons of the phone are located on the right side starting from the volume rocker, power/screen lock and the camera shutter button. The MicroUSB port is located at the bottom part while the 3.5mm handset-free socket is located at the top near the SIM tray.

Interface

The Nokia Lumia 920 runs on Windows 8 Operating System. The latest version on the Windows Mobile Phone Operating System. If you are an Android or iOS user, you will feel like it is very hard to navigate inside the phone. For those who are using Windows 7.5 Operating System on their phone, you will feel at home after upgrading your OS.

Some of the latest features about the Windows 8 Operating System is its support to multiple co-processors, giving Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor that is supported with 1GB of RAM. With a power like this, Nokia Lumia 920 can be sure fast when it comes to processing some multiple apps at a time.

If you are an Android or iOS user trying the power of Nokia Lumia 920, you will see that the lock screen is very different. There is no “Swipe/Slid to Unlock” thing in the lock screen. You also don’t have the shortcuts for your applications. All you have to do to unlock your phone is you slide your finger upward or if you don’t like that, and you want to be more different, you can press the camera shutter and you will be redirected to the camera instantly.

Even though app shortcuts are not available on the lock screen, you can set some different information to be displayed on. You can make a particular app display information in your lock screen such as image background from your Facebook or stocked images from Bing for background. You can also add a text under the clock such as your Facebook status, reminders or even the next event in your calendar.

The home screen displays a number of live tiles which can be resized, removed or repositioned just by holding down on the icon. These live tiles are your applications. Unlike on iOS and Android, you don’t have the home screen which displays only your favorite apps. For you to see all the applications you have in your Nokia Lumia 920, just swipe down or you can press the arrow icon on the bottom of all your live tiles and you will be presented with your app list, of course, arranged in alphabetical order.

Operating System

The Nokia Lumia 920 runs in Windows 8 Mobile, a mobile version of the most popular computer Operating System in the world. If you are an Android or iOS user, as far as applications are concerned, you will be disappointed because on the lack of choice. The Windows Store has only around 100,000 applications compared to the Apple Appstore and Google Play which has both 700,000 applications to choose from.

If you are new to Windows Mobile Operating System, you can download the application called the “Nokia Care” which helps Nokia Lumia series users to navigate around the phone. It provides a simple, yet effective step-by-step tips and tricks on how you can fully maximize the power of your phone. If you are the type of person who really don’t want to read a lot, you can watch the step-by-step tutorial for easier understanding.

Verdict

Nokia Lumia 920 can be considered a good smart phone today. If you are an “Appmonster”, Windows phones are not for you. You should rather have Android or iOS phones. If you are a Nokia fan, you will see that Nokia is greatly improving since Nokia Lumia 920’s predecessors that has a lot of performance issues like terrible lagging and a lack of external memory support. The speed of the phone is really good but still, App matters for a lot of people today and we can say that Windows phones are still not a good choice for today.
